Factory worker charged with retiree’s murder in Melaka

MELAKA: A 27-year-old factory worker has been charged with the murder of a retiree at the Magistrate's Court here on Friday (May 5).

The charge against accused Syafiq Raj Kalai, 27, was read before magistrate Nabilah Nizam.

Based on the charge sheet, Syafiq Raj, together with another individual, have been charged with causing the death of Sa’adon Sahat, 57.

The offence was allegedly committed at the back lane of shophouses on Jalan PPM 4, Plaza Pandan Malim, Melaka Tengah between 2.44am and 3.10am on Feb 27.

The charge was framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries a death sentence upon conviction.

The accused was represented by counsel R Ryshinah.

The court fixed June 22 for next mention pending necessary documents and post-mortem report.

On March 1, The Star reported that Sa’adon was allegedly mowed down by two men after he asked one of them to turn down the volume of his car's speakers.

The victim and his son had allegedly confronted the two men for causing a nuisance by playing music loudly inside their vehicle at about 2.45am on Feb 27.

The victim’s son alleged that he had initially asked the two to stop playing loud music at a parking bay that is located behind a commercial hub here as the sound was disrupting the peace of the family who lives in Kampung Padang at Jalan Pokok Mangga here, next to the parking bay.

The two initially left the site, but returned later to continue their antics at the same spot, before ramming the victim with their car, causing him to be dragged for 20m.

The victim succumbed to serious injuries at Melaka Hospital on March 1.

On March 27, an Indian National, Logamurugan, 27, was charged at the Magistrate’s Court at Ayer Keroh for the same offence.
