PETALING JAYA: Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) has proven its commitment towards Pakatan Harapan ever since the Sheraton Move in 2020, says party president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (pic).
He said the party has never aligned itself with the individuals who “have betrayed the mandate” through the political coup despite receiving threats and losing positions.
“We even campaigned hard for friends in Pakatan (during the 15th General Election) and vice versa.
“After the election, when statutory declarations (by Perikatan Nasional) were being collected, we immediately committed our support to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim until today.
“And I believe that we’ve shown the level of consistency of support and alignment and ideals, that in itself shows a lot of things,” he told The Star.
Muda has been waiting on its application to join the coalition since last September.
Last month, Pakatan secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said he had yet to read Muda’s application to join the coalition.
On Monday (April 17), PKR’s youth chief Adam Adli was reported to have said that Muda’s application has yet to be raised during presidential council meetings as there were more pressing matters to be discussed.
However, the Deputy Sports and Youth Minister said that Muda’s application was not opposed by anyone in the coalition.
On Wednesday (April 19), The Star reported analysts as having said that Muda will continue to be sidelined by Pakatan if the party cannot offer any political contribution to the coalition.
On the state elections, Syed Saddiq said the priority of his party to be discussed with Pakatan would not be on the seat distributions.
“The priority must be about the answers whether we (Muda) are a part of Pakatan or not.
“I don’t want to predict what will happen, let’s allow the process to take place,” the Muar MP said when contacted.
He added that Muda has no discussion for a “Plan B” if the party is not invited to be a component party of the coalition.
Regarding the issue that no representative from Muda was ever invited to the Unity Government’s secretariat meetings, the former Cabinet member said that he had taken up the issue privately.
“I wrote a letter as well and I will try to resolve it,” he added.
On March 20, Muda secretary-general Amir Abdul Hadi expressed disappointment that his party had been left out from the unity government secretariat's meeting for the second time.
