Puteri Sarah can't wait to make a fresh start

PETALING JAYA: Actress Puteri Sarah says she cannot wait to be free from her marriage to director Syamsul Yusof as she wants to get on with her life quietly.

The 38-year-old said she just wanted her freedom and urged everyone to pray that things will go smoothly.

The actress arrived at the Federal Territory Syariah Court at 9.20am Tuesday (April 18) clad in white, reflecting her wish for this to be the first day of her new life.

"Hope Syamsul grants the divorce and if it is not successful, I will reveal the reasons later," Sinar Harian quoted her as saying.

Proceedings for the divorce were set to be held before Syariah judge Akmaluddin Iyas at 11am.

On April 10, the Federal Territory Syariah Court set the date for proceedings in the divorce after the couple reached an agreement to dissolve their marriage amicably.

However, the terms of the agreement will only be known later.

Syamsul was represented by lawyer Azmi Mohd Rais while Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader represented Puteri Sarah.

Syamsul and Puteri Sarah were married on March 8, 2014 and have two children, Syaikhul Islam, six, and Sumayyah, four.

Rumours of a marital rift surfaced four years ago but Puteri Sarah has never talked about it.

In January, Syamsul revealed his relationship with Ira Kazar and admitted he had married her in Thailand.

Puteri Sarah then filed for divorce from Syamsul on Jan 16 through legal firm Akberdin and Co.

Syamsul, who arrived at the court at 9.50am, declined to give a statement.

"I am here only for the divorce proceedings. We will see how it goes... there is nothing more to comment," he added.
