Kuih seller shaken after seeing son’s leg stuck in toilet bowl

MELAKA: A six-year-old boy got his right leg stuck in a toilet bowl at his house in Kampung Pinang, Tangga Batu here.

The boy, Alif Akmal Iqwan, had gone to the toilet to wash up when he slipped and one of his legs was lodged in the toilet hole at about 3pm on Saturday (April 15).

His mother, Noor Asyimah Noordin, 36, was preparing food items for her stall at the Ramadan bazaar here when she heard her son screaming.

"He was yelling loudly for me and I thought something bad had happened.

"I tried to free his leg but to no avail," she said when interviewed here.

The "kuih keria" (a traditional doughnut-shaped pastry) seller said she was shaken by the whole episode and felt so helpless when seeing her son’s situation.

"I immediately asked for help from neighbours and called the Fire and Rescue Department," she said.

Noor Asyimah said she had to cancel her sales at the bazaar due to the incident as she was unable to prepare the ingredients for the delicacy in time for the stall to be opened at 6pm.

"It was fortunate that my son’s leg was not fractured but the incident had traumatised me," she said.

She said a team of firemen took only a few minutes to free her son's leg.

Noor Asyimah, who is a single mother, said Alif Akmal was the youngest of her three children.

She said her eldest 17-year-old daughter quit school to help her at the stall.

"I am selling kuih keria to keep my family going and sometimes, my revenue is not sufficient to make ends meet," she said.

Klebang assemblyman Datuk Lim Ban Hong said he will help Noor Asyimah.

He said there are various programmes designed to assist single mothers in his constituency and Noor Asyimah will be invited to take part in the economic development forums.

Lim said he will also visit Noor Asyimah and her children in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya.
