Man who allegedly insulted royalty on Facebook remanded two days


KUALA LUMPUR: The 42-year-old man, who was detained in Temerloh, Pahang, for allegedly insulting the royal institution via Facebook, has been remanded for two days.

Police secretary Deputy Comm Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin said the suspect, who was detained on Wednesday (April 12), has been remanded until Friday (April 14).

"The case is investigated by the Bukit Aman CID Special Investigation Unit (USJT) under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998," she said in a statement on Thursday (April 13).

DCP Noorsiah advised the public to respect the royal institution.

"Stern action will be taken against those issuing statements insulting royalty," he said.
