Sepang police increase presence in Putra Perdana


SEPANG: An uptick in crime cases within the district, especially in Putra Perdana, has led to extra police presence.

Sepang OCPD Asst Comm Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof said recent statistics showed noticeable increase in the district’s crime index.

“During the crime prevention meeting at the contingent level on March 15, the Sepang district recorded an increase of 45.04% (50 cases) in our crime index compared to the same time period last year,” he told a press conference at the Putra Perdana police station yesterday.

On potential reasons, ACP Wan Kamarul Azran said this time last year, the country was still phasing out of the movement control order as opposed to the situation now where things have completely resumed normalcy.

Further studies identified Putra Perdana as the area with the most cases with 16 during their time frame of record.

“It is quite telling and for that reason we are focusing our crime prevention efforts within the area of Putra Perdana,” he said.

Since March 21, the district police have increased their presence and performed more checks at known areas such as shopping malls.

ACP Wan Kamarul Azran said studies showed that most of the cases reported were for theft and after increasing their presence this had led to a steady decrease in the crime index.

However, more could still be done, leading to a special three-day crime prevention operation.

Six roadblocks have been set up within the Putra Perdana area, including in Bukit Puchong 2, Jalan Meranti Jaya and Jalan Aman Putra.

Walking patrols will also be increased and manpower has been funnelled in from other stations within the Sepang police jurisdiction.
