Stepping up on the world export stage

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia recorded trade growth of 11% to RM204.99bil in February this year, with a strong hold of electrical and electronic (E&E) products, petroleum products and liquefied natural gas (LNG) – a sign of healthy competition and resilience of Malaysia’s key economic drivers.

To recognise these leading exporters who have contributed to Malaysia’s economy as the country steers itself towards a better economic year, Star Media Group’s Export Excellence Awards (EEA) highlights the successes that eminent businesses have achieved in their exports and successes in the international arena.

For starters, there will be roadshows across the nation that will feature talks with a panel of experts. Participants will get insights into the export industry, brainstorm and even join in the panel discussions on the latest trends in the market.

With a soiree lined up, EEA alumni of past winners will get the chance to mingle among themselves while connecting with the industry’s elite to grow their brand alongside the most up-to-date industry players.

“As a leading media organisation, Star Media Group keeps its finger on the pulse of the latest economic developments and we’ve had the privilege of analysing and reporting on local, regional and international business news for more than five decades,” says Star Media Group chief executive officer Alex Yeow.

“We have seen how local export companies have gone on to expand their services beyond our own shores and proven themselves to be forward thinking, with the capabilities to meet and even outperform economic demands.

“Together with Standard Chartered Malaysia and our partners, we are proud to present the Export Excellence Awards once again to celebrate those that have contributed to the transformation and growth of the export industry.

“This awards initiative has been a really effective platform for Malaysians to showcase their achievements, widen their network and also inspire peers within the industry, so we look forward to even more remarkable exporters this year.”

A total of 35 awards across five categories will be presented at the fourth annual Export Excellence Awards 2023.

The top industry categories are machinery, electrical and electronics; agriculture, food and beverage; industrial products, consumer products and services, as well as special awards for halal products, rising star, woman exporter of the year, and exporter of the year.

There will be two tiers of awards at EEA 2023 for:

> Small and medium enterprises with annual sales turnover of up to RM50mil for products and up to RM20mil for services.

> Medium and large companies with annual sales turnover of above RM50mil for products and above RM20mil for services.

“As the national trade promotion agency, Matrade is proud to be the patron of this prestigious Export Excellence Awards for the fourth consecutive year,” says Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz.

“Trade connectivity is seen as one of the crucial engines to refuel Malaysia’s economic growth by sourcing new avenues, facilitating delivery of products to new market segments and entering new partnerships.

“Having operated in Malaysia for 148 years and as a leading trade bank, we are well positioned to connect the capital, expertise and ideas needed to drive new standards and create innovative solutions for a more equitable and sustainable growth.

“We believe in the potential of globalisation to increase participation in the global economy.”

Submissions are open from now until Oct 19 with the winners of EEA 2023 to be announced at the Export Excellence Awards Gala Night to be held later in the year, so stay tuned for that as well.
