Anwar: Maiden visit to China greatly beneficial to Malaysia

BEIJING: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim describes his maiden official visit to China as greatly beneficial to Malaysia.

Wrapping up his four-day visit on Saturday (April 1), Anwar says China's President Xi Jinping has acknowledged Malaysia's role and contributions to the Islamic world.

He also said he had extended an invitation for Xi to visit Malaysia next year to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Xi last visited Malaysia in 2013 when the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement was signed.

"President Xi has also been asked to use his influence to help resolve the conflict in Myanmar," said Anwar.

The Prime Minister also said Xi had expressed support for Asean in dealing with international security issues in the South-East Asian region.
