KUALA LUMPUR: All enforcement agencies have the right to take action against unlawful elements based on their respective jurisdictions, says Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani.
The Inspector-General of Police said Bukit Aman had always encouraged enforcement action by other agencies against elements that victimised the public.
"If it involves raids conducted by the MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) and the Immigration Department, we definitely encourage it," he told reporters after attending the police excellence awards ceremony in Bukit Aman here on Friday (March 3).
He was commenting on the recent raids by the MACC and the Immigration Department against an online scam syndicate recently.
Asked about allegations that the syndicate was protected by an enforcement agency, the IGP said the police had never protected any officer or personnel involved in illegal activities.
"If there is involvement of police officers and personnel in any activity that is against the law, we will take appropriate action.
"The police have been consistent in not compromising on taking action against those involved in illegal activities.
"Such action is stern and prompt to ensure that all officers and personnel uphold the rule of law and the integrity of the police force" he said.
On Feb 21, the MACC busted an investment syndicate masterminded by British citizens, following 24 raids and the arrests of 81 suspects.
Codenamed Ops Tropicana, the raids were conducted simultaneously at call centres, companies and houses in the Klang Valley and Penang.
The syndicate is believed to have been active since 2019 and has amassed almost RM200mil after duping victims in Australia and the United Kingdom.
