Man ‘reserves’ car seat for the late Jayalalithaa

A MAN who bought a car once used by former Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa has “reserved” a spot for her inside the vehicle with a poster of the deceased leader.

Makkal Osai reported that Padianallur Murugan, who is a supporter of AIADMK, which is Jayalalithaa’s party, bought the car in 2015.

He is a huge fan of the actress turned politician who died in 2016 at the age of 68.

The Tata Sumo vehicle was initially purchased by Jayalalithaa’s supporters through a fundraising effort in 2000.

It was apparently used by the late chief minister for just a few months before it changed hands to a party official who did not use it much because he was fired soon after.

Padianallur spent hundreds of thousands of rupees to refurbish the car completely except for the seat used by Jayalalithaa, which was kept in its original condition.

He also affixed a poster of her on that particular spot, besides adorning the car’s exterior with slogans proclaiming the vehicle had belonged to her previously.

According to him, that “all important seat” has never been sat on by anyone, including his own children, in the eight years he has owned it despite his family using the car regularly.
