Hiker, 46, dies of heart failure on Rembau's Gunung Datuk

SEREMBAN: A 46-year-old man is believed to have died of heart-related complications while hiking up Rembau's popular Gunung Datuk.

Rembau police chief Deputy Supt Hazri Mohamad said Muhamed Noorafzanidzam Salleh collapsed and lost consciousness at a height of 400m up Gunung Datuk and a team from the Fire and Rescue Department had to be called in to help bring him down.

"The victim was hiking with his nephew when he suddenly collapsed at 8.46am on Sunday (Feb 26).

"A medical officer from Hospital Tampin administered CPR and he was rushed to hospital in an ambulance," he said.

DSP Hazri said that medical officers at the hospital declared the victim dead at around noon on the same day.

A post-mortem found that the victim suffered from coronary artery disease as one of the arteries leading to the heart was blocked.

The victim was later buried at the Kg Mampong Muslim cemetery in Tampin.
