We will talk to Umno first, says Amanah

JOHOR BARU: Amanah needs to talk to Umno before accepting its former members, says Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub.

The Amanah deputy president said this is necessary as both parties are working together in the government.

“We need to discuss it with Umno first if that were to happen (getting applications from ex-Umno members). Umno is one of the parties under the unity government – as such, we will talk to them if we come across such a situation,” said the Johor Pakatan Harapan chief when asked if the party would take in Umno leaders who were sacked recently.

Salahuddin was speaking to reporters at Johor Pakatan’s Chinese New Year dinner, which saw the party receiving membership applications from 400 people, on Friday night.

On Jan 27, Umno sacked former Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin and supreme council member Tan Sri Noh Omar.

Sembrong MP Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, former information chief Shahril Hamdan, former Youth exco member Datuk Dr Fathul Bari Mat Jahya, former Tebrau division chief Datuk Maulizan Bujang and former Jempol MP Datuk Seri Mohd Salim Mohd Shariff were all suspended for six years.
