Jupem director-general pleads not guilty in RM136,000 corruption case


KUALA LUMPUR: The director-general of the Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia (Jupem) Datuk Hazri Hassan (pic) has been charged at the Sessions Court with two counts of graft involving more than RM130,000 in funds from the Board of Land Surveyors Malaysia (LJT).

Hazri, 57, who is also the chairman of LJT, pleaded not guilty to two counts of using his position to obtain the bribes after the charges were read out before judge Suzana Hussin here on Wednesday (April 22).

According to the first charge, Hazri is accused of using his position as LJT chairman to obtain a bribe amounting to RM30,201.16 for himself.

The act is linked to his involvement in an LJT board meeting that discussed his participation in the “14th Session of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM)” in New York, United States, from Aug 4 to 9, 2024.

For the second charge, he is accused of using his position to obtain a bribe amounting to RM105,914 for himself.
