Policeman killed in road accident


KOTA BARU: A police inspector was killed when he lost control of his car and crashed into two lamp posts in Tumpat.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said Inspector Chong Yeong Ren, 29, died of severe head injuries in the 11.30pm incident at KM5 of Jalan Palekbang-Tumpat near Wakaf King on Sunday.

“The victim was heading home in Kampung Terbak, several kilometres away, when he lost control of his vehicle. He was pinned to the driver’s seat and died at the scene. His body was taken to the Tumpat hospital for a post-mortem,” he said in a statement yesterday, Bernama reported.

On behalf of the Kelantan police, Muhamad Zaki expressed their condolences to Insp Chong’s family.

He said the officer, who joined the police force on June 3, 2019, had always shown strong commitment to his work. Insp Chong leaves behind a wife and a three-month-old child.
