MCA to send in updated memo to PM on issues relating to Budget 2023

KUALA LUMPUR: A memorandum will be submitted to the Prime Minister involving several issues including the economy, small and medium businesses (SMEs) as well as education, which can be considered in Budget 2023, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The MCA president said the party held a dialogue with several non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in September last year to listen to the views and aspirations of the community that needed the attention of the government.

"I can see that there are several big challenges in terms of the global economy, including the trade war between the United States and China, which will be a factor in affecting economic growth, inflation rate and foreign investors.

"We will update the memorandum following several latest announcements made by the government and we will hand it over after the Chinese New Year celebration," he told reporters at the party's 2023 Chinese New Year reception Sunday (Jan 22).

Also present at the event were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, and other Cabinet members.

The revised Budget 2023 will be tabled in Parliament on Feb 24.

The previous administration under Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had tabled the Budget on Oct 7 last year, involving an allocation of RM372.3bil.

However, it was not debated as Parliament was dissolved on Oct 10 to make way for the 15th General Election.
