KULAI: A man who claimed to have been robbed of RM600,000 was detained by police after investigations revealed he had made a false police report.
Kulai OCPD Supt Tok Beng Yeow said the 43-year-old suspect logged a report about the alleged incident at the district police headquarters on Sunday (Jan 15).
“The suspect claimed that at 7.30pm on the same day while travelling on the North-South Expressway (NSE) southbound after the Skudai Toll, he was forced to stop his car after it was blocked by two black vehicles.
“He alleged three masked men, armed with a knife, then came out of the car and took RM600,000 in cash from him and punched him in the face before fleeing,” said Supt Tok in a statement here on Wednesday (Jan 18).
He added a police team from the criminal investigation department then went to the alleged location.
“However, our investigation revealed some contradicting statements in his story.
“He later confessed to having made up the story to cheat on his business partner so he wouldn't have to pay his own money to help start their business," he explained.
The suspect is currently on remand for two days, until Jan 19.
The case is being investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code for making a false police report, which carries a maximum fine of RM2,000 or imprisonment of not more than six months, or both if found guilty.
“We would like to take this opportunity to remind members of the public that the police will take serious action on those who are found lodging fake reports,” he added.
