Bung: Hajiji must be open to Anwar's unity govt to end crisis


KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor should accept the proposal by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to end the current political crisis, says Datuk Bung Moktar Radin (pic).

The state Barisan Nasional chief said that the unity government proposal will guarantee the interests and well-being of the people of Sabah.

He added in a statement on Tuesday (Jan 10) that Sabah Barisan fully backs Anwar's proposal.

Sabah Barisan hopes that it will accept a proposal for an all party unity government in Sabah to end the political crisis.

The state Barisan chief said that the Sabah unity government proposal by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim should be accepted with openess in the interest of Sabahans.

"I also hope that YAB Chief Minister Hajiji Noor can accept with an open heart the recommendations from YAB Prime Minister in order to ," he said in a statement today (Jan 10).

He said Sabah Barisan-Umno was fully backing Anwar's proposal.

Bung, Parti Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal and Parti KDM president Datuk Peter Anthony had met with Anwar who was in the state's capital for three hours on Monday (Jan 9) night to help find a solution for the state's crisis.

Anwar also met with Hajiji during his stopover on his way back to Kuala Lumpur after his two- day visit to Jakarta.

It is understood that Anwar proposed that Hajiji consider an all-party unity government involving Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), Pakatan Harapan with Barisan, Warisan and KDM.

The proposal is aimed at ending the Sabah political crisis that was triggered when Barisan pulled out of the GRS-Barisan coalition government

"I am confident that the current political temperature will cool off and bring stability to the state government through such an agreement," Bung said.

On the tabling of the Gas Distribution Bill 2023 and the Energy Bill 2023 at the special sitting of the Sabah Assembly on Tuesday (Jan 10) , Bung said that his party fully supports it.

He said the two Enactments are important as it will strengthen Sabah's participation in the oil and gas sector.

However, Bung added that many of the Sabah Barisan-Umno assemblymen may not be able to attend the Assembly sitting as they are leaving for Kuala Lumpur to attend the Umno General assembly this week.

He said most flights to Kuala Lumpur were full and they had to book available earlier flights.
