Hajiji meets Sabah governor amid political crisis

KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has met with Yang Di Pertuan Negeri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin at Istana Negeri here.

The Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman arrived at Istana Negeri at 4.22pm for a four-eyed meeting with Juhar here on Saturday (Jan 7) before leaving at 5.30pm.

His office has not made any media statement over the topic of discussion between Hajiji and Juhar.

On Friday (Jan 6), Sabah Barisan Nasional led by Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin announced that they were withdrawing support for the GRS-led coalition state government.

GRS sources said Juhar had asked for statutory declarations from assemblymen stating who they support.

Some anticipate that Hajiji might be asked to prove he has support during the Sabah Assembly sitting on Tuesday (Jan 10).

Speculation is rife that Hajiji will be able to muster the support of at least 40 assemblymen in the 79-member house.

Counting the support from the seven Sabah Pakatan Harapan assemblymen and five Barisan-Umno dissidents, Hajiji currently has the backing of 38 Sabah assemblymen.
