GUA MUSANG: A group of some 1,500 Orang Asli in Pos Bihai and Pos Balar here wants more quota and better connectivity for their Internet access under the National Digital Network (Jendela) plan.
Mulian Alok, 51, from Pos Bihai, said the current quota provided to the village was insufficient to be used by all of the villagers.
He said the residents, mostly from the Temiar tribe, had also requested for a telecommunication substation to be built for better connectivity.
“Currently, we can only make and receive calls through WhatsApp with the Jendela Wi-Fi.
“But because too many people are using it, the access is slow and limited,” he told reporters in Kampung Bihai Lama here yesterday, Bernama reported.
For Aport Angkai, 31, the limited Internet access has made it difficult for them to get help during emergency such as immediate medical care or when faced with the threat of attack by wild animals.
A student of SMK Bandar Chiku, Agoramos Angen, 17, said it was hard for him to connect with his family due to the poor Internet coverage.
“The Internet in the village is very slow,” said the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia student, who is currently staying at the school hostel.
Galas Assemblyman Mohd Syahbuddin Hashim said he took note of the residents’ complaints and would bring up the matter to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.
“I hope the problems and issues raised by the residents can be acted upon as soon as possible,” he said.
