K9 unit deployed in Wisma Jakel fire probe


SHAH ALAM: Two dogs from the K9 unit have been deployed to assist the forensic investigation of the fire at Wisma Jakel here.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Datuk Norazam Khamis said the English springer spaniel dogs named Rusty and Sam were deployed specifically for the probe on Monday (Jan 2).

"We are using them to see if there is any form of accelerant at the scene such as petrol, oil or chemicals.

"It is a normal procedure as part of our forensic investigation to determine the cause of the fire," he said when contacted.

Various other elements were being looked into as well including wiring, machinery and electrical appliances, Norazam said.

On Sunday (Jan 1), Wisma Jakel in Seksyen 7 here was destroyed in a fire.

The building, which also housed textiles, caught fire at 7.19am.

More than 38 officers and personnel and several fire engines were deployed to the location.

"We managed to bring the fire under control within an hour," he said, adding that about 80% of the building was destroyed.

No casualties were reported in the incident.
