Anwar receives warm welcome in Johor in first official visit as PM


JOHOR BARU: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim received a warm welcome by the people here during his first official visit to the state since assuming the premiership role.

The Prime Minister arrived at Kampung Melayu Majidee at about 12.05pm Friday (Dec 30) and was greeted by Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

Also present were state secretary Tan Sri Azmi Rohani, Johor housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor, Johor youth, sports, entrepreneur development, cooperatives and human resources committee chairman Mohd Hairi Mad Shah, as well as Local Government Development Deputy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir.

Anwar spent about 20 minutes at a food court in Kampung Melayu Majidee, where he had lunch and greeted the people here.

Chants of 'Reformasi' could also be heard coming from the crowd that was swarming the Prime Minister.

He then performed his Friday prayers at Masjid Kampung Melayu Majidee.

Earlier, the Prime Minister was granted an audience with Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar at Iskandar Bukit Serene.
