Batang Kali landslide: Four people at the rescue ops centre were missing victim's family, say cops

HULU SELANGOR: The four people who showed up at the landslide rescue operation centre in Batang Kali were indeed the family members of one of the victims.

Hulu Selangor OCPD Supt Suffian Abdullah said the individuals - a man and three women - were looking for their family member who was one of the victims.

"The man had lodged a police report that his father was among those missing.

"We can confirm that the man's father is among the nine victims still missing," he told reporters at the landslide site on Monday (Dec 19).

It was earlier reported that four individuals believed to be family members of a landslide victim arrived at the operation centre in Batang Kali.

Meanwhile on another matter, Supt Suffian said 125 officers and personnel members were involved in the search and rescue operation on Monday.

"We also used 11 excavators and nine dogs from the K9 unit in the operation.

"Despite it being the fourth day, we are still trying our hardest to find the remaining victims," he added.

Supt Suffian said SAR operations for the past two days had to be temporarily stopped due to the weather.

"However, I will discuss with the Fire and Rescue Department in continuing the SAR operation tonight given the good weather," he said.
