Visit Home Ministry to get clearer picture of Sosma, says deputy minister

LENGGONG: Non-governmental groups have been urged to get more information from the Home Ministry for a better understanding of the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma).

Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said some quarters might not have been given the correct information about the Act.

“I believe the Act also covers the well-being of people.

“Those who feel that Sosma is biased may not have received the right information. They can visit us to get a (more complete picture) of the Act," he told reporters after officiating the first anniversary of Festival Lenggong Geopark at Laman Budaya here on Friday (Dec 16).

On Thursday (Dec 15), Muda vice-president Zaidel Baharudin claimed that Sosma, when compared to the defunct Internal Security Act 1967 (ISA), was more progressive in principle but remained "very one-sided".

“Since the weather is uncertain, I hope people will avoid high-risk areas,” he said.

Earlier on Friday, a landslide hit a campsite with about 100 people at Father's Organic Farm in Batang Kali.
