Sosma can be amended if the need arises, says Home Minister

PUTRAJAYA: The Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma) can be amended if there is a need for it as the law is dynamic, says Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

"I have received a call from my good friend, Gobind Singh Deo, who gave his views. My stand is that all laws are dynamic in nature," said the Home Minister at a press conference on Thursday (Dec 15).

"Is Sosma a law? The answer is yes. If a law is dynamic then it means it can be amended or modified from time to time. At this point of time, I would say no," said Saifuddin.

He said that he had studied parts of the Act and "if you ask me, if those parts are required forever I will say no".

On Wednesday (Dec 14), Gobind, the Damansara MP, had asked Saifuddin to reconsider his stance on Sosma, saying that the latter's position was at odds with the position taken by Pakatan Harapan, which has acknowledged that Sosma is "problematic and needs to be dealt with".
