Fisherman hurt trying to save son from croc

KOTA KINABALU: A father’s attempts to rescue his son from the jaws of a crocodile in Lahad Datu turned futile as the reptile not only managed to snatch the boy away but also injured him.

The fisherman and his son were rowing their boat off the Lahad Datu marine operations base when the crocodile attacked them yesterday morning.

When the crocodile grabbed the boy, his father attempted to fight it off and pull his son out of its jaws.

“However, the man ended up with multiple bite wounds while the son was dragged underwater,” said Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue station chief Sumsoa Rashid.

He said they were informed of the incident at around 10.50am and had sent a search and rescue team to respond.

“The man was given preliminary treatment before he was sent to the hospital,” he added.

Sumsoa said their rescue team was still trying to locate the boy and the reptile.
