GE15: No to unity govt with Pakatan, says Muhyiddin

KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional declined a proposal by the King to form a unity government with Pakatan Harapan, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The Perikatan chairman said it has always been the coalition’s stand of not cooperating with Pakatan.

“We have discussed the matter earlier. We will not cooperate with Pakatan and that is the party’s stand from then until today,” said Muhyiddin in a press conference outside his house in Bukit Damansara on Tuesday (Nov 22) evening.

Muhyiddin said he was also asked to sign a letter if he agreed to the idea of a unity government, adding that he had indeed signed the letter with an indication that he disagreed with it.

He added that when he submitted the statutory declarations to Istana Negara, he had garnered the support of 115 MPs.

"We also have an acceptance letter by Datuk Nazim Mohd Alim, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's private secretary, confirming receipt of the documents.

"I want to show the proof that when we submitted, our numbers exceeded 112, which is more than the 112 required in the Federal Constitution and we were confident that we are able to form the government.

"But when I met the King, it was revealed that this (he held up the SDs) was not enough. I don't know the reasons behind it, but the proof is here," he said.
