GE15: Focus now is on picking the best coalition to form govt, says Johor Perikatan

JOHOR BARU: The 15th General Election (GE15) has shown that the people want a clean and stable government that can prioritise their welfare, says Mohd Solihan Badri.

The Johor Perikatan Nasional deputy chairman said the focus now is to choose the best coalition to form the government and a line-up of ministers that can best deploy its manifesto.

“Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has a proven track record during his tenure as the prime minister, and I hope that he will be given another chance to be re-elected to that post.

“Five years is a very short period, and we will have a lot of ground that needs to be covered, so I believe those chosen to be the ministers must not only be free from any court cases but also can deliver,” he said Sunday (Nov 20).

Asked whether Perikatan should accept cooperation from Barisan Nasional, Mohd Solihan said there will be no issue as long as their priority was the welfare of the people.

“There are those who have previously made negative remarks on Tan Sri Muhyiddin, but I believe that egos must be put aside so that the new government can fully function smoothly.

“They also need to accept if Tan Sri decides not to work with anyone who is under the 'court cluster',” he said, adding that the state Perikatan is ready to help in the party manifesto.

Meanwhile, Johor Gerakan vice-chairman Datuk Tan Chin Hock said that GE15 was a good sign that shows the will of the people and the direction they want for the country.

“We cannot run this government alone, so I hope that those who have the same ideas as Perikatan will be able to come on board.

“Tan Sri Muhyiddin has been very clear of his direction, which is the welfare of the people, and we hope that we will be able to discuss this with the other political coalitions on the way forward,” he said.

In GE15, Perikatan managed to get 73 seats, with Pakatan getting 81 seats, Barisan (30), Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) (22), and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) having six seats.
