GE15: Dr Wee set to retain Ayer Hitam seat in unofficial results

YONG PENG: Unofficial results show that Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong is set to retain the Ayer Hitam parliamentary seat.

The MCA president and four-term incumbent received 18,776 votes as of 9.15pm Saturday (Nov 15) while his opponents Pakatan Harapan-DAP’s Sheikh Umar Ali Bagharib received 15,989 votes and Perikatan Nasional-Bersatu’s Muhammad Syafiq A. Aziz received 11,726.

Supporters, who were watching the screen closely as the unofficial results rolled in at the Yong Peng MCA operations centre in Jalan Templer here, were seen cheering as well.

Meanwhile, three-term incumbent MP Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng also emerged victorious in his bid to defend the Tanjung Piai seat.

The three-cornered fight saw Wee clinching 23,618 votes compared with Perikatan-Bersatu candidate Najwah Halimah’s 13,627 votes while fledgling party Muda’s Lim Wei Jiet received 17,160 votes.
