GE15: Barisan's Bukit Mertajam candidate tests positive for Covid-19, observing home quarantine


GEORGE TOWN: The Barisan Nasional candidate for Bukit Mertajam in the 15th General Election has tested positive for Covid-19.

Tan Yang Pang from MCA said he tested positive on Tuesday (Nov 15) and would be under self-quarantine at his home.

Apologising to the voters, Tan, affectionately known as Ah Pang, ensured that his campaigning would continue with his "Team Ah Pang" helping him campaign.

"I apologise for not being able to hand out my flyers in person.

"Team Ah Pang will also monitor the water levels in flood-prone areas while I am isolated.

"My team will do their level best to lend a helping hand to those who are affected by the floods," he said in a post on his official Facebook page.

Tan, 39, is a first-time candidate who is a businessman in Bukit Mertajam.

He is going up against incumbent Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim Chee Keong from Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional's Steven Koh Tien Yew from PAS’ non- Muslim Supporters Congress (DHPP).

In his post, Tan also shared the contact number for his operations room, 04-539 4003, for Bukit Mertajam residents in need.
