PETRONAS, Yayasan Sabah ink MOU, agreement on education sponsorship programme

KOTA KINABALU: PETRONAS and Yayasan Sabah Group inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) and sponsorship agreement to collaborate in an education sponsorship programme.

The documents were signed on the sidelines of the inaugural Sabah-PETRONAS Annual Strategic Dialogue (ASD) 2022, a platform to strengthen collaboration between PETRONAS and the state government in the oil and gas (O&G) industry.

It was witnessed by state Local Government and Housing Minister and state Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

The MOU will see them cooperate in terms of student selection, the promotion of PETRONAS Education Sponsorship Programme (PESP) - that awards SPM high achievers to pursue tertiary studies in Universiti Teknologi Petronas or other institutions, as well as promoting knowledge on the O&G industry through programmes organised by both parties.

It also aims to nurture the students’ potential in science and mathematics-related activities, as well as harness their interests in technical and engineering fields, while becoming a potential feeder to PESP which is a PETRONAS signature programme, said PETRONAS and Yayasan Sabah in a joint statement.

The sponsorship agreement is also to formalise the implementation of the programme that will see the placement of high-performing students from Sabah at selected fully residential schools in the peninsula.

The oil and gas company’s subsidiary - PETRONAS Floating LNG 1 (L) Ltd (PFLNG1 Ltd) - will be the corporate sponsor for the programme, leveraging on the experience and expertise of Yayasan Sabah Group, they added.

“PETRONAS and Yayasan Sabah Group remain committed in their efforts towards providing opportunities and access to quality education to students in the state through financial assistance and innovative collaboration with various agencies and corporate bodies,” they added.
