Court fixes Nov 25 for next mention of ex-lecturer charged with hubby’s murder


SEREMBAN: The Magistrate's Court has set Nov 25 for next mention of the case involving a 55-year-old former lecturer accused of stabbing her husband to death.

Magistrate Norzaliza Tesmin said this after the court was told that all reports, including the chemistry report related to the alleged crime, were ready for the case to proceed.

Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Nurul Muhaimin Mohd Azman told the court that the prosecution had obtained all the relevant reports.

Lau Seck Yan, who had contested as an independent in the 2018 Port Dickson by-election, was charged on Jan 28 with murdering Poh Seng Giap, also 55.

She allegedly committed the offence at their house at the Rasah Kemayan Golf and Country Township between 3.30pm and 4.30pm on Jan 23.

Poh had previously worked as an accountant.

Lau was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty upon conviction.

She was represented by Chew Jee San.

When met later, Nurul Muhaimin said the court may also at the next hearing, transfer the case to the High Court provided that this has been approved by the Attorney-General’s Chamber.

Seremban OCPD Asst Comm Nanda Maarof had prior to this been quoted as saying that the victim had stab wounds in his chest and abdomen.

He said police had received a call from the couple's 18-year-old daughter and that two of their children had also witnessed the incident.

ACP Nanda said police also seized a sharp object at the crime scene.
