Covid-19 mediation service centre closes on Oct 23

PETALING JAYA: The Covid-19 mediation service centre (PMC-19) that was set up on Nov 11, 2020 will officially end its services on Sunday (Oct 23).

As such, the web page www.pmc.19.gov.my will cease to exist at 11.59pm on Saturday (Oct 22).

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Parliament and Law) Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said PMC-19 was formed under the Temporary Measures for Reducing the Impact of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) 2020 (Act 829).

"PMC-19's role was to help the general public to solve arbitration arising from the inability to implement whatever contractual obligations which arises from the implementation of the movement control order and the Covid-19 pandemic," said Wan Junaidi in a statement.

He said PMC-19 received 290 cases and 79 of them were settled with the arbitration amounting to RM3.8mil.

"The government is proud that PMC-19 has helped Keluarga Malaysia to settle contractual arbitrations without any court process," he said.

This, said Wan Junaidi, proved much faster, cost effective and a fair settlement to the society.

"The free mediation service under PMC-19 would not have been a success without the support of the Malaysian Bar, Sabah Law Society and Advocates Association of Sarawak.

"The government thanks all officers and staff of the Covid-19 Mediation Centre, Prime Minister's Legal Affairs division who have served during the formation of PMC-19, as well as the mediators in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak who made the program a success," he said.

Wan Junaidi said the government appreciated all who were involved in the formation of PMC-19 and Keluarga Malaysia which continuously supports the government's initiatives in helping all who were affected during the implementation of MCO during the Covid-19 pandemic.
