Newcomer Ahmad Idham up for the challenge

PETALING JAYA: Although a political novice, Ahmad Idham Ahmad Nadzri (pic) said he’s undaunted by the political heavyweights contesting the Port Dickson parliamentary seat.

The actor, director and producer, said he had nothing to lose if selected to stand against PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim or Pakatan Harapan’s Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

“I am leaving it to the leadership of Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) to decide if I will be selected to contest in Port Dickson,” said the former National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) chief executive when contacted yesterday.

While acknowledging he may not be as politically savvy as Anwar or Aminuddin, he said he had gained exposure while serving the local community in Port Dickson over the last several months.

Ahmad Idham, who founded Pertubuhan Briged Perihatin, said he had been providing help to less fortunate families with special needs children.

Ahmad Idham was recently touted as a possible GTA candidate by Negri Sembilan Parti Pejuang Tanah Air chairman Mohamad Jani Ismail.

Anwar was elected Port Dickson MP in October 2018 in a by-election following his royal pardon for his sodomy conviction.

There has been talk that Anwar may give up his seat to Aminuddin in the coming 15th General Election and contest elsewhere.

Among the seats mentioned is the Tambun Parliament seat in Perak, which was offered to Anwar recently.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Idham said he would be relying on social media to reach out to young first-time voters under Undi18.

“I have been an actor and director for 25 years, and social media is my forte,” he said.
