Two die as cars burst into flames in five-vehicle pile-up near Kulai


KULAI: Two individuals were burnt to death in their cars following a five-vehicle pile-up at KM45.7 of the North-South Expressway (Southbound) here.

Kulai OCPD Supt Tok Beng Yeow said that police received a report about the accident involving two lorries and three cars at about 8.30pm on Saturday (Oct 15).

"One of the lorries, which was heading towards Johor Baru from Ayer Hitam, had changed lanes when a car on the same lane hit it from the back.

"Two other cars and one lorry tried to avoid the collision but failed. Three vehicles burst into flames," he said in a statement here on Sunday (Oct 16).

He said that the driver of the first lorry was not injured while the driver of the lorry which caught fire suffered light injuries.

"The driver of one of the cars died at the scene. The deceased has yet to be identified.

"The passenger in another car that caught fire was also killed while the driver suffered light injuries," he said.

He added that the driver of another car that did not catch fire suffered light injuries.

He said that the deceased suffered serious injuries to their bodies and heads.

"Their remains have been sent to the Kulai Hospital Forensic Department for a post-mortem.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
