Melaka AKM Tour: Firefighters' culinary fare a hit with visitors

MELAKA: The Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) "Fire Kitchen Abang Bomba" food truck at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) here has been a big hit with visitors to the Melaka Malaysian Family Aspirations Tour (AKM Tour).

Selangor JBPM Senior Assistant Supt Shaharil Mohamad Hassan, who is also the Fire Kitchen Abang Bomba's chief coordinator, said nearly 3,000 plates of the three types of noodle dishes it prepares have been sold since Friday (Oct 14).

"Here, we have been selling the same dishes we offered at the last AKM Tour, which is fried mee, kuey teow and vermicelli at a price of only 50 sen per plate.

"Although we do not break even, our goal is to get closer to the community and to ensure that visitors do not go home hungry.

"The visitors are also able to buy food at a very cheap price, especially if they have many children (to feed)," he told Bernama here Sunday (Oct 16).

Elaborating further, Shaharil said the Fire Kitchen Abang Bomba food truck, operated by eight members, had toured several states such as Kelantan, Kedah, Selangor and Negri Sembilan.

He said for the three days of the Melaka AKM Tour, his team had prepared about 150kg of yellow noodles (mee), kuey teow (225 kg) and vermicelli (50 kg).

Visitor Asha Nadia Sharif, 24, from Ayer Molek said the food truck's prices were very cheap.

"With the price and large quantity (of food) as well as being tasty, it is very worthwhile and what is more, it helps parents who bring many children along (to the AKM Tour) to feed them.

"I find the food truck concept very interesting, and I am also able to meet the firefighters," she said, adding that they (the firefighters operating the food truck) had gone viral on social media. - Bernama
