Opposition fears rejection of people in bid to delay GE15, says Zahid

PETALING JAYA: Opposition parties' eagerness to delay elections are a sign of their fear of rejection by the people, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Umno president claimed that the Opposition’s reasons to delay polls were narratively weak.

“They are trying to play perception politics again like they did in GE14.

“We can see this in their united uproar all over social media, claiming that there will be heavy rain and massive floods in November despite the Malaysian Meteorology Department denying the possibility.

“They also bring up the issue of the possible clash of election dates with important celebrations like Deepavali, Chinese New Year to avoid the election,” he said in a Facebook post.

Ahmad Zahid said the Opposition has forgotten that Barisan Nasional has plenty of experience in organising and conducting elections and knows the best time to hold polls.

“They even try to frame the estimated high costs of the upcoming election as a bad thing and a reason to delay the polls while ignoring the fact that election cost has never gone down before in history.

“High election cost signals that the government wants to ensure that the election process runs smoothly by providing the best facilities for all parties and voters.

“The fear-mongering nature of the Opposition is evident when it ignores facts and arguments about floods and elections,” said Ahmad Zahid.

He believes that the Opposition’s keenness to postpone the election is also due to the fear of rejection by voters based on their apparent failure to uphold their promises when they were the government.

“They are afraid of being punished by their own voters who were angry that Pakatan Harapan failed to implement their manifesto.

“They are desperate to retain the remaining support they have after losing much of their supporters due to their own leadership conflicts,” he claimed.
