Thirty Johor schools to vie for RM23,000 recycling prize

JOHOR BARU: A total of 30 primary schools in the state will be competing against one another for RM23,000 worth of prizes in a recycling programme organised by SWM Environment Sdn Bhd.

The concessionaire's corporate general manager Mohd Norlisam Mohd Nordin said the competition, dubbed "Jom Kitar Semula Botol Kaca" will involve the participation of over 30,000 schoolchildren.

"The programme will start this month (September) and run until January next year, where we aim to collect about 10 tonnes of glass bottles for recycling.

"The programme is part of our KITARecycle initiative and we want to give a chance to participating schools to generate income while doing recycling activities," he said when met after the officiating ceremony of the programme at the Johor Tourism Information Centre (Jotic) building here on Tuesday (Sept 20).

Mohd Norlisam also said that SWM Environment managed to collect 41 tonnes of glass bottles last year and 33 tonnes as of August this year in Johor.

"We usually hear about plastics, paper, and aluminium can recycling programmes, but there has never been any programme on glass bottles. So this time, we wanted to focus on how we can reduce glass waste and recycle it," he said.
