Give Muhyiddin a chance to lead the country again, say Perikatan parties

SERDANG: Recollect our strength so we can take over Putrajaya and make Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin the prime minister again, say Perikatan Nasional component parties.

At Perikatan’s convention here, leaders of Gerakan, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Sabah STAR) and Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) unanimously said Muhyiddin should be given a chance to lead the country again.

Gerakan president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau said Muhyiddin’s principles best reflected the spirit of Perikatan.

“His battle in combating corruption shows the integrity of his leadership. This includes Muhyiddin being brave to speak up and to make decisions because of the truth,” he said in his speech at the Perikatan convention on Saturday (Aug 27).

He also noted the large number of Perikatan representatives in the Cabinet, Parliament and also state governments.

“Despite this, there is still more room for improvement, so let us come together and give our support to Perikatan,” he said.

Sabah STAR secretary-general Edward Linggu Bukut said Sabahans in general believe that Muhyiddin should lead the Federal Government.

“We have 25 parliamentary seats in Sabah. We will make sure that the majority of that will be won by Perikatan so that we can contribute more federal seats,” said Linggu.

SAPP president Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee said there were parties in Sabah that are not part of Perikatan who supported Muhyiddin as prime minister because they felt he cared for the state.

“Perikatan and Muhyiddin as the prime minister had fulfilled their pledges on preserving the autonomy of Sabah and Sarawak.

“The reason why SAPP decided to join Perikatan was because Muhyiddin created a special ministry for the Sabah and Sarawak affairs. This gave us the confidence that the Malaysian Agreement 1963 (MA63) agenda is something the government cares about,” said Yong.
