PM must consult Perikatan first on election date as per signed agreement, says Muhyiddin

SERDANG: The Prime Minister has to consult Perikatan Nasional before deciding when the 15th General Elections (GE15) will be held, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The Perikatan chairman said this was agreed on in the agreement signed between them and Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

"He has to consult us first as we (Perikatan) are also part of the government. This was agreed and signed by both of us.

"I don’t know whether the Prime Minister remembers this," he said during his speech at the Perikatan convention on Saturday (Aug 27).

Despite that, Muhyiddin said Perikatan was ready for GE15 at any time.

"Even if the prime minister meets with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to recommend the dissolution of parliament tomorrow, we, as 'anak jantan', are ready to enter the ring and fight!" he said.

Referring to Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s demand that GE15 must be held this year, the Perikatan chairman said it meant Barisan Nasional was not that strong.

"Zahid said if we wait to have the elections next year, Barisan may lose. I enjoyed reading that. They are not that strong after all.

"I say, if we have elections this year, they will also lose!" he said, to loud applause from the audience.

Muhyiddin also noted that Perikatan received reports that support towards Barisan was waning.

"What more with their calls for an early election to get back in power and save certain individuals from the judiciary.

"The people must not allow this to happen," he said.

Also present at the convention were leaders from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, Gerakan, PAS, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Sabah STAR), Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP).
