Disappointed with Putra joining GTA, Hamidah quits party

IPOH: Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra) vice-president, Datuk Hamidah Osman announced her decision to quit the party on Wednesday (Aug 10) upon feeling disappointed over it joining the Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) coalition.

"I feel so sad and disappointed with the party president’s decision of joining GTA and working together with former prime minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

"As a matter of principle and a mark of losing trust in the party (Putra) president and its other leaders, who have aligned themselves with Tun (Dr Mahathir), I wish to relinquish all my posts in Putra and leave the party with immediate effect,” she said at a press conference, here.

The former state assemblyman for Sungai Rapat said she would not be joining any political party, but would continue championing the issue of Malay reserve land on a suitable platform such as a non-governmental organisation (NGO).

On Aug 5, Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) chairman, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced the formation of GTA comprising various political parties and NGOs in facing the 15th General Election. - Bernama
