Kuala Lumpur cops stage city-wide drug sweep, bust lab and arrest over 200


KUALA LUMPUR: Over 200 people have been detained in an anti-narcotic operation in the Federal city which also saw a drug lab busted.

The two-day blitz from July 27 involved various agencies and was led by Bukit Aman.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim said police staged sweeps at numerous locations across Kuala Lumpur, with a focus on PPRs.

"A total of 209 people were detained for various drug-related offences.

"Eight of them were found to be on the wanted list," he said in a statement on Monday (Aug 1).

Comm Azmi said 15 litres of liquid drugs and 1.6kg of drugs were seized.

He said a Honda Accord was also confiscated. The seized items are valued at RM374,829.

"A drug laboratory operating inside a terrace house in Taman Mastiara was also busted.

"The lab was found to have been processing ketamine, with 1kg of the processed drug as well as other chemicals seized at the compound.

"It had been operating from the rented house for the last two months," he said.

Comm Azmi added that a 39-year-old local man, who was the 'cook', was also arrested.

"He was released from prison in 2019 and has been working as an electrician," he said.

The man had been remanded until Tuesday (Aug 2).
