PUTRAJAYA: The Higher Education Ministry has instructed Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) to prepare a comprehensive report on the death of a student during an endurance event in Pahang.
Its minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the ministry was taking the death of the UiTM student during a training programme at UiTM Jengka, Maran on Saturday (Sept 5) seriously.
“We take serious attention to every matter involving students who participate in programmes such as this.
“As we know, the Kesatria Programme conducted at many other universities is part of an existing programme.
“Certainly, in matters such as this, I have asked UiTM to prepare a complete report for us to see what the causes are and also the subsequent actions that need to be taken,” he said.
He said lessons should be drawn from the incident to prevent a similar occurrence from happening again.
“The most important thing is that in such circumstances, we certainly need to learn lessons so that it does not happen,” he said after the presentation of sponsorship letters for tuition fees to Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) students on Monday (Sept 7).
According to the preliminary report received by the ministry, Zambry said the incident involved exposure to heat and excessive temperatures, which affected several students.
“This is because it is a training programme that is usually conducted and carried out every year,” he said.
On Sept 5, a UiTM student was reported to have died while eight others suffered seizures and lost consciousness during the UiTM Se-Malaysia 2026 Komander Kesatria Endurance Challenge (KKEC) at the campus.
