SHAH ALAM: Police are hunting seven suspects to assist investigations into a gang-related brawl that resulted in the death of a 23-year-old local man in Alam Megah here.
Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Shazeli Kahar said eight suspects had been charged under Section 302/149 of the Penal Code in connection with the case.
He said initial investigations found elements of gangsterism in the incident, which was believed to have stemmed from a turf dispute.
"The case involving the death is believed to have been caused by a dispute over territory," he said during a press conference here on Monday (Sept 7).
He said following the incident, police, together with the Shah Alam district police headquarters, conducted several special operations from Aug 14 to 28 at several locations in Selangor and other states.
According to him, checks revealed that the deceased had a criminal record with six drug-related offences under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Comm Shazeli urged members of the public with information on the suspects to come forward to assist investigations.
"Police are seeking the public's assistance to provide and share information if they know or have seen any of the seven individuals to assist investigations," he said.
The case came to light on Aug 23 through a one-minute video showing a group of individuals involved in a fight on a road that resulted in a man’s death.
