Housing units for army veterans to be built from 2023

Hishammuddin: ‘The aspect of improving housing for defence staff has never stopped.’ — Bernama

A TOTAL of 12,733 Rumah Keluarga Malaysia Angkatan Tentera (RKMAT) housing units will be built in five phases from 2023 to 2030 for veterans, said Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.

The Senior Minister (Defence) said that under the ministry’s Housing Blueprint 3.0, which was recently officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, the government is also targeting to upgrade 80% of the existing 7,292 units while furniture will also be replaced.

He said 4,200 RKMAT homes had already been built at several armed forces bases across the country, while another 552 units are expected to be completed by the year’s end.

“The aspect of improving housing for defence staff has never stopped,” he said during the question and answer session.

Hishammuddin was responding to a question from Kesavan Subramaniam (PH-Sungai Siput) on housing for veterans and the status of the housing blueprint.

Separately, there were 1,242 accidents involving food delivery drivers (p-hailing drivers) between 2018 and May this year.

According to the Transport Ministry, the figure comprised 1,048 light injuries, 82 serious injuries, and 112 deaths involving p-hailing drivers.

In a written reply, the ministry said it had held various advocacy and safety campaigns to educate drivers on the need to carry out their delivery jobs safely.

It also revealed findings from a study on p-hailing drivers’ behaviours through CCTV recordings at the Transport Information System (ITIS) at 11 major roads in Kuala Lumpur involving 16,308 drivers.

“It was found that 62% of riders stopped at the pedestrian walkway; 14% of them used their phones and beat red lights; 7% made illegal U-turns; and 3% of them drove against traffic,” it said in response to V. Sivakumar (PH-Batu Gajah) who asked about the issue.
