PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 3,936 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday (July 17), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 4,622,981 infections since the pandemic began.
The Health Ministry's CovidNow portal reported that 3,935 of Sunday's new Covid-19 cases were local transmissions while one imported infection was logged.
There were 3,899 recoveries on Sunday. This brings the cumulative number of recoveries in Malaysia to 4,544,615 since the pandemic began.
The portal also reported that there were 42,511 active cases currently in the country, with 40,933, or 96.3%, observing home quarantine and 33 individuals, or 0.1%, admitted to low-risk quarantine and treatment centres.
The CovidNow portal reported that 1,545 patients, or 3.63% of the total, were currently admitted to hospital for treatment. The number of Covid-19 patients warded at intensive care units (ICU) throughout the country stands at 61, with 38 of these patients requiring ventilation support.
The ICU utilisation rate nationwide stood at 63.9%, with nine states or localities recording ICU usage rates of more than 60%.
Selangor had the highest ICU utilisation rate at 82.9%, followed by Kedah (77.2%), Kelantan (75.3%), Kuala Lumpur (71.7%), Sabah (65.9%), Negri Sembilan (65.3%), Terengganu (64.3%), Perlis (63.2%) and Johor (62.9%).
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry's GitHub data repository reported that seven Covid-19 deaths were recorded on Sunday with three being classified as Brought in Dead (BID).
This brings the death toll to 35,855.
