Crackhouse Comedy Club co-founder investigated over old videos, say police

PETALING JAYA: A Crackhouse Comedy Club co-founder has been detained by police in connection with two videos recorded at the club that touch on racial and religious sensitivities.

Police secretary Deputy Comm Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin said the 39-year-old man was arrested in the Klang Valley on Thursday (July 14).

"Investigations are being carried out under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998," she was reported as saying in a statement Thursday by Sinar Harian.

DCP Noorsiah also said a remand application for the suspect would be made on Friday (July 15).

"We will complete our probes and forward the investigation papers to the Attorney General for further instructions," she said.

She also advised the public not to speculate unnecessarily or make any statements that could disrupt investigations.

Several police reports were lodged against the suspect following the woman's controversial performance recently.

On Wednesday (July 13), a couple under fire for allegedly pulling off an indecent act at a comedy club’s open mic night and then uploading a video of it on social media has been charged in court.

Siti Nuramira Abdullah, 26, and her boyfriend V. Alexander Navin, 38, pleaded not guilty to three charges in two separate courts.

Siti Nuramira was charged under Section 298A(1)(a) of the Penal Code for causing disharmony, disunity, or feelings of enmity, hatred or ill-will, or prejudicing the maintenance of harmony or unity, on the grounds of religion.

At the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court, Navin was slapped with two charges for making and sharing an offensive posting on his Instagram account on June 5 and on his YouTube account on June 16.

Both charges were filed under Section 233 (1) (a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
