MELAKA: A robber known as “Spiderman” was unable to escape the octopus-like arms of the law when police here crippled five robbery gangs that had been active in the state.“Spiderman” is believed to be a 38-year-old man who can scale tall buildings and was involved in five cases with losses amounting to RM50,000.

Three women aged between 22 and 57 were also arrested in a series of raids, said Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit.

Four other gangs, he said, had kingpins known as Zahid, Michael, Ruben, Botak and A-D-C.

ACP Patit said the five gangs were involved in 49 robberies at factories, places of worship and homes within the Melaka Tengah District since the beginning of the year.

“Our operation ended on June 20,” he added.

He said several pieces of equipment used for staging the robberies were seized along with a car, three motorcycles, 13 mobile phones and cash.

“Total losses in all the robberies amounted to almost RM500,000,” he added.
