GEORGE TOWN: Two tourists were injured Tuesday afternoon (Aug 4) after a wooden beam and concrete debris plunged from the upper floor of a heritage shophouse along popular Armenian Street.
The incident occurred around 1pm as the couple, a husband, 66, and his wife, 55, both believed to be from Sri Lanka, were strolling past the building. Both sustained head injuries when the falling beam struck them.
Emergency medical responders treated the couple at the scene before transporting them to a nearby hospital for further care.
Fire and Rescue Department personnel swiftly cordoned off the area to conduct a structural assessment of the heritage shophouse. The cause of the collapse remains under investigation.
