MELAKA: Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah graced the 57th Annual General Meeting and Conference of the Girl Guides Association Malaysia (PPPM) at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) Ayer Keroh here.

Her Majesty, who is also the Royal Patron of PPPM, arrived at 11.08am Sunday (June 26) accompanied by PPPM president Datin Seri Muhaini Zainal Abidin, who is also the wife of the Prime Minister, and Raja Puan Muda of Perak Tunku Soraya Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah, who is PPPM deputy president.

Also present were Melaka PPPM Patron Toh Puan Asmah Ab Rahman, Melaka Chief Minister's wife Datin Seri Munira M Yusop and PPPM Chief Commissioner Datuk Jeyadhevi Subramaniam.

Her Majesty said the theme of the PPPM's conference this time "Our World, Our Equal Future" was in line with its function and role as called for by Allah SWT.

"The world needs to be taken care of, that is the responsibility of all of us together. In other words it is the human role that actually shapes and takes care of this earth. The attitude of preserving and conserving this earth should not be taken lightly.

"So I invite myself and the audience to together play the role of being responsible citizens of the world. If we are not the ones who take care of this world, who can we count on?" Her Majesty said.

Tunku Hajah Azizah said the descendants and future generations would be threatened if the world was filled with destruction and therefore the attitude of caring for the environment should start from now.

"In order to preserve and maintain a prosperous life, we must heed the Malay proverb "di mana ada kemahuan, di situ ada terbentangnya jalan" (where there is a will, there is a way)," she said.

At the event, 142 people received 14 awards from the association, namely the Lifetime Badge (36 people); Service Medal (15); Agok Bakti Lebah Medal (three); 20 Years Service Medal (two); Coach Badge (one); Pearl IV honour (four) and Pingat Layang-layang medal (four).
