BUTTERWORTH: Youth in Kepala Batas will have a world-class mini stadium complete with esports facilities in Paya Keladi here when it opens.

Kepala Batas MP Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said the Kepala Batas Youth Centre will have a synthetic football field, a normal field for athletics training and an indoor stadium for sports like badminton.

"The mini stadium will have esports facilities of an international standard, a hipster cafe and hostels," he said after launching the Esport Youth Cabin in Kepala Batas here on Saturday (June 11).

Reezal said the construction of the mini-stadium in a 25-acre plot of land is expected to begin this year and will be ready in two years time.

On the Esport Youth Cabin in Kepala Batas, Reezal said that he is happy that it has become the latest attraction for youths from the surrounding area, as well as for those from places like Alor Setar.

The programme was organised by the Penang Esport Association, and Reezal joined some 500 people at the Esports Youth Cabin to watch the live telecast of the national football team in their second Group E match of the 2023 Asian Cup qualifiers against Bahrain.

The event coincided with the official opening of the Esport Youth Cabin located at the compound of Kepala Batas Umno headquarters.

During the programme a PUBG Mobile Pro League South East Asia Watch Party was held, and 300 people aged between 14-35 took part.

The Esport Youth Cabin was opened on 1 March 2022 and is open from 4.30pm to midnight every day.

Among the facilities available at the Esport Youth Cabin are a production studio, gaming rooms, a futsal court, a meeting room and a food court.

Meanwhile PUBG Mobile Pro League South East Asia Watch Party head marshal Zulhisham Mahadzir said some 300 youths in 32 teams participated in the event.

"Participants are from around the surrounding area and there were also participants that came from Sungai Petani and Alor Setar," he said.

Zulhisham said the participation was positive despite the rain and participants are gunning for the RM1,000 prize in the two-day event.
